The reasons I love magic.

I see magic as a art form. Like any other art form there the need to understanding behind what your doing. This can involve the research in many field not just the history of magic. For example i have loved dice since I was a kid I am now developing a dice routine. As well searching the magic books I have also looked at the history of dice and including stories of dice loaders and scoundrels in to my routine. So this exploring other interest and learning more about what's around us is great.

The second thing is exploring what's around me understanding the environment I am in. For example at festivals I like to either be loud and showy or sat down under a tree nice and slow and calm. I bars it about chatting and laughing then leaving with a loud reaction. Not only am I exploring the environment but I want the people to explore as well throw my magic. One place i do is a cabaret night and a feel that I take people away from work mode to a position of something else something creative and enjoyable. So the understanding of people and what's around me is something I enjoy.

I often say to other magicians enjoy your magic and let others enjoy it as well. I just love it when your doing magic and some watch just forget about what's going on in the mad world. To see some that leave smiling fells compiled to speak to me and show a interest in what i do is a great pay back for all the practice I put in. Of course its great when someone pays you as well he he.

So as i started out magic is a art form. And as any artist they need to practice and understand there skill. Then apply it in away to communicate message of how they feel or to aid the viewers understanding. In is this type of filed we also need to entertain up lift and have a laugh.

I just love sharing my magic with any one be it a crowd that as paid for tickets or a waitress in a café. I don't want to interfere or change what's going on around me I just like to bring a bit of refill and reflect it all with a bit of puzzlement and wonder.

Puzzlement and wonder?

The idea is that my magic become a extension of me. I like the idea that i become a person that dose magic as I go with things around me. Not the type of persons like oh yeah i am a magician but I don't have anything on me or yes this contain which no one seen the likes of before. I would like to responded in this case naturally. This can be explained in a case were someone asked me about magic and as we spoke I played with a mustard pot and a napkin. I wrapped the mustard in the napkin the bang I hit it and the pot went throw the table. The person I was speaking to freaked and they was amazed that I just did it there and then.

I also like to be aware of what's going on around me. I was in a café once and a mum and daughter were having breakfast. They had a teddy bear and a toy bunny with them which were also having breakfast with them. As I left i went up to the mum and daughter and asked about there friends then performed a trick with sponge bunnies. As the sponge bunnies jumped from my hands to the young girls people working in the café goatherd to watch. At the end as the girl opened her hand and there were the 2 bunnies with a pile of babies. The people watching gasped there was a small round of applause I grabbed my stuff and said farewell and things carried on as normal. I later saw the mum and daughter the mum thanked me very much. This is a example of just adding something to the environment around me then just leaving it to carry on as it would done but just sprinkled with a little puzzlement and wonder.

All the world's a stage,And all the men and women merely players: Shakespeare.
This is what he said and I do not disagree. I also like to do little routines at bus stops and just general places i hang out in. I usually look for the kids with tired parents the parents like there kid to be distracted for a while. Also on top of a double decker bus stuck in traffic I did a few tricks for some guys on a tour bus next to us.

So this is what I am working on and what I done so far. Its a fine line from this and just being annoying lets hope I keep on the right side. So this is the start of Al Zebediah and
Puzzlement and wonder and quite were its going i dont know but there's a few things planed I let you know as I go.

Friday Night Proposal.

This is an night of entertainment that takes place in the St James the less church in Pimlico London.
First of it a amazing polychromatic Victorian Gothic church built by G.E. Street in 1859. This church is full of wonders like the mosaic by G.F Watts. This is still a full working church serving it community.

The act that are on at Friday Night Proposal are quite ecliptic. It is mainly music but there has been poets, bards and comedians to just list a few. I stroll round at the begin as guest arrive waiting for each other or having the first glass of wine. I also do a set in the break as well. The stuff I do is all close up I like to wonder around and create magical moments as I go. If someone or a group show interest I will approach to perform more. When I am performing for a group I like to get them involved a do something were they keep a physical item from the trick as well as a emotion experience. The routines I perform I like to keep simple to follow and happen in the spectators hands.

I feel that I bring a little something extra to the evening. I start the spectators journey from busy week life to the delightful event that will unfold in the evening by giving a little puzzlement and wonder.

So far so what

This is just a quick list of some of the things I have done. I hope this show I have a varied ability able to work any were. Also part of my work as a science communicator I am use to performing to a wide age group and audiences up to 150-200. I am an strong performer and happy in most situations.

The magical things I have done so far. About 2 years ago I started going out on the streets and doing some busking. I like working with my diabolos to draw attention then break out in small routines of magic. I Have taken out cups and balls but carrying a table is a pain. I like to be more mobile moving around with a shoulder bag or pockets. I much prefer working with smaller groups and getting to know them as I perform.

In the past year I have done a few small festivals and really enjoyed them. Here I found that setting up and area with the table set for cups and balls building up a crowd and doing a small show for 40-50 people. Also walking round working out of pockets doing close up for 2 or 3 people or something larger for 10 to 15 people. There is a lot of interaction and silly games with kids at these events. One festival I did which was a family event in the day then at night it become more adult focused. Mainly under one marque and beer tent. As orchestra swapped over I filled the gaps with a bit of walk round.

Obliviously I have done lots of magic a friends and family events. These or more testing things out and finding out what works and what dose not. I've also done Christmas party at work which have gone down quite well.

There is something else I have done called Friday Night Proposal but I will do a separate post on this. So this is so far and so what.
